The new study involved 3,000 women and was conducted by Boston University’s School of Public Health. It found that moderate activity such as walking benefited the fertility rates of women with all body types while intense, vigorous exercise lowered the chances of conception for normal weight women (no impact for overweight women was found).
The study further found that moderate exercise was associated with slight decreases in the term of pregnancies. Vigorous exercise five or more times per week in normal weight women delayed conception in a given month as much as 50%. The study authors made it clear that further studies were needed before drawing major health conclusions with one main exception: regular, moderate physical activity has health benefits for all women and body types.
